Springfield Mayor Misty Buscher notes that Wyndham City Centre owner is unhappy with downward TIF revision

While nothing is final yet, Springfield Mayor Misty Buscher says the owner of the Wyndham City Centre downtown is not happy about her downward revision in the amount of financial assistance the city could provide to renovate the 30-story hotel.

Former Mayor Jim Langfelder had proposed an $18.75 million assistance program paid for with TIF funds, but Buscher now says the city can only provide around $11 million, and says she doesn’t think the owner is “interested in the lower amount.”

Buscher says owner Al Rajabi wanted to address the City Council last week, but Springfield Sangamon Growth Alliance director Ryan McCrady, who has supported the Wyndham project, was unavailable, so Rajabi could instead appear next week.

Buscher says Rajabi hasn’t made any decisions yet about what comes next, but says the city has contingency plans in place if it were to lose the Wyndham’s hotel rooms for upcoming downtown conventions.
