Governor Pritzker taking tour of Illinois to tout budget innovations and their impact

Governor JB Pritzker is continuing a statewide tour to tout what he says are the big achievements of a new state budget approved by lawmakers last week.

Pritzker’s travel plans included a stop earlier this week at the University of Illinois Springfield, where the governor talked about the budget’s investments in higher education and in the Monetary Award Program, known as MAP grants.

The budget includes an increase of $100 million in MAP funding, which Pritzker says will make it possible for virtually every student from a low- or middle-income family in Illinois to attend community college tuition free.

Pritzker is also praising the budget deal for investing in child care and early childhood education.
