St. Martin de Porres has more sweet potatoes than it can store

The St. Martin de Porres food pantry – located at 1301 S Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. – needs to give away around two and a half tons of sweet potatoes on Tuesday.
The potatoes were made available under “The Federal Emergency Food Assistance Program,” or “TEFAP” – a federal program that requires that food must be distributed within one month of it being initially received.
Since Tuesday is the last day of the month, the sweet potatoes have got to go from the food banks to the food pantries.
The St. Martin de Porres pantry says that anyone who goes there Tuesday can drive off with “their weight in sweet potatoes.” The potatoes come in 40-pound boxes and are suitable for pies, baking, and other uses.
The pantry will also accept donations from the public to assist with repairs and upkeep.
