Heat Advisory In Effect; Experts Offer Tips On Beating The Heat

With a heat advisory now in place through Wednesday evening, public health officials are reminding you of steps to take to avoid heat-related illness.

It’s important to stay hydrated… drink plenty of water, but avoid sugary, caffeinated, or alcoholic beverages. You should avoid direct exposure to the sun during the hottest parts of the day… stay in air-conditioning or stick to the shade as much as possible. If you are out in the sun, wear light-colored, lightweight, and loose-fitting clothing. Also wear a hat and sunglasses, and use an appropriate sunblock on exposed skin.

Heat index readings are expected to be in the 105 to 110-degree range at least through late in the day Wednesday.
