Chiefs Of Police Seek Hundreds Of Millions To Retain, Support Cops

A leading Illinois police organization is asking state lawmakers to approve more than $750 million in new funding to address police shortages and other concerns.

The Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police says even as crime rates climb around the state, more people are leaving law enforcement than ever before… and application rates to enter the profession are at a 30-year low.

The association is seeking $276 million to enhance pension benefits and other compensation for officers, along with $200 million for technology and equipment, and additional funding for training and officer wellness programs.
