Governor JB Pritzker has issued a disaster declaration ahead of a winter storm that’s expected to create dangerous conditions across the entire state.
Pritzker has also activated the State Emergency Operations Center in Springfield and has mobilized 130 members of the Illinois National Guard to assist with emergency response and help people who become stranded in the storm. IDOT is deploying more than 18-hundred trucks and other pieces of equipment to plow, put down salt, and try to stay ahead of the storm. Sangamon County has issued a Level One Winter Weather Emergency, which means that roads will be hazardous and drivers should caution.
It’s the lowest of the county’s three emergency declaration levels for winter driving.
