Floyd’s Looks To Add Rooftop Bar, Expand Kitchen With TIF Dollars

The downtown might be getting its first rooftop bar as soon as next spring, as the co-owners of Floyd’s Thirst Parlor have requested $520,000 in funding to be used to expand the kitchen and to add an impressive serving area on the roof.
Owners Andrew Denton and Jeremy Bredemeyer made an appearance before the Springfield’s Economic Development Commission on Tuesday (October 19) to ask for over half a million dollar in funds from the Central Area TIF, which will go towards the total project cost of just over $1.5 million. The request was unanimously approved by the EDC and now moves towards a final review and vote by the Springfield City Council.
In an interview with the Springfield Business Journal, Denton says that the bar currently has about 1,600 square feet of usable space, which will double to nearly 3,000 square feet with the addition of the rooftop space. “It will increase our occupancy to 450 people. I’d like to see it be a heated area that we could use year-round,” he said, noting that they are still exploring various options for utilizing the rooftop space during inclement weather.

Floyd’s Thirst Parlor, which is located at 210 South Fifth Street has been a downtown staple for nearly 20 years and has been owned by Denton and Bredemeyer for more than six years.
The project hopes to be completed in spring 2022.
