State of Illinois designates two Eastside Springfield neighborhoods as cultural districts

The state of Illinois has designated two eastside Springfield neighborhoods as cultural districts – which makes them eligible for economic development funding.

The two neighborhoods are Central East and South Town. They could receive up to three million dollars to promote economic development.

Central East and South Town will receive this designation for the next ten years.

City leaders say the recognition highlights the community’s strength and diversity.
