Springfield High School, SPD and SoS Police all note procedures and precautions in wake of Friday’s bomb threat

After investigating and searching the grounds, the SHS administration and
Springfield Police and the Secretary of State Police – who operate their security
dogs – deemed the building clear, and students returned to the building
to continue their Friday school day as usual.

Out of an abundance of caution, they also had all students re-enter the building through metal detectors – with law enforcement overseeing the return. Students returned to their second hour, and then began their lunch shifts before continuing with their regular schedule.

The Springfield Police Department, the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office – as well as our State’s Attorney, John Milhiser – noted that Friday’s response was evidence concerning how seriously any and all threats across District 186 and in Sangamon County are taken by the authorities.
