An elk is wandering around central Illinois, and authorities are asking residents to be on the lookout. The animal was last spotted near Sangchris Lake.
It has traveled at least 120 miles since first being seen loose near Coulterville. Hunters have been sending pictures to authorities who hope to capture the animal before it becomes involved in a roadway collision.
One official speculated that it might have escaped captivity, something that’s happened in the past in Illinois; the owner has yet to be located.
