Four thousand new solar panels on 10 acres in Kane County just went online. It is expected to provide more than half of the electricity for the nearby Kane County Judicial Center and Jail in St. Charles.
The Aurora Daily Beacon reports that the project is a partnership between the county and private contractors who provided all of the upfront costs for design, permits, financing and construction.
The county will purchase the power at a discounted rate.
