IDPH warns public about this week’s extreme heat and its consequences

The Illinois Department of Public Health is warning residents to take this week’s high heat levels seriously. “Exposure to extreme heat can cause serious health complications, including heat exhaustion and heatstroke,” said IDPH Director Dr. Sameer Vohra.

Most of the recommendations are common-sense measures like seeking air-conditioned space, drinking plenty of water, and avoiding exertion during the hot part of the day. But most importantly, take symptoms of weakness, dizziness, and nausea seriously.

Excess heat causes about 1300 deaths annually in the United States.
