New pedestrian innovation at Springfield’s MacArthur and Williams Blvd intersection currently under construction

For those curious about some roadway innovations on the west side of Springfield, answers exist.

A new pedestrian refuge island and crosswalk are being built on MacArthur Boulevard at the Williams Boulevard intersection; as a result, traffic is a bit different than what many are routinely used to.

To make room for the center median, the traffic pattern on MacArthur Boulevard between Lawrence Avenue and South Grand Avenue has been changed.

Traffic is now merged into the outer curb lanes, and the two center lanes have been eliminated.

Left turn lanes have been placed at intersections to accommodate the changes.

WMAY will have updates on this innovation as more information emerges concerning it
