Ward 5 Alderwoman Purchase takes issue with Ward 3 Alderman Williams Jr.’s comments concerning local commission appointment

A Springfield alderwoman says she’s hurt by the claims made by a colleague who opposed her appointment to a key local commission.

Ward 5’s Lakeisha Purchase was ultimately confirmed for the Regional Planning Commission, but not before Ward 3 Alderman Roy Williams, Jr. sought to have the nomination put on hold.

Williams tells WMAY that he believes Purchase does not have enough knowledge or interest in the issues facing his ward and other east-side neighborhoods. He also points to complaints that have been raised about rental properties operated by Purchase.

Purchase says it’s wrong and hurtful to suggest she doesn’t care about the east side. And while she acknowledges complaints about the properties, she says many stem from issues outside her control, and says the complaints are being addressed.
