Springfield City Council “civility pledge” appears to have a rough time ahead in garnering signatures

Springfield Mayor Misty Buscher has signed a resolution calling for city officials to take a “civility pledge” – but achieving that level of civility may be easier said than done.

Even though Alderwoman Erin Conley reminded her colleagues of that resolution at the start of this week’s City Council committee of the whole meeting, there were still occasional tense exchanges – including one between Conley and Alderman Roy Williams, Jr over whether Williams had improperly interrupted her.

As of Wednesday, no elected official had formally signed the pledge yet, and it’s unclear if only officials in elected offices would be asked to sign the voluntary pledge, or if the mayor’s appointed department directors would also be asked to do so.
