Former Riverton cop free on bond after being arrested on child pornography and official misconduct charges

A former Riverton cop is free on bond following his arrest on child pornography and official misconduct charges.

Officer James Hillyer posted $15,000, or 10% of his $150,000 bond, and was freed from the Sangamon County Jail to await trial on the felony charges.

The former school resource officer is accused of possessing sexual images of children and of asking a minor to provide such images.

Hillyer is now scheduled to make his first court appearance on the charges on May 25.
