SPD says running red lights is a growing problem across Springfield – aiming to crack down on it

Springfield Police are cracking down on what they say is a growing problem – drivers running red lights.

Police say such incidents often lead to crashes, frequently resulting in injuries and even deaths.

So the department has started stationing officers at high-traffic intersections specifically looking for drivers disregarding traffic signals.

One such recent detail at Veterans Parkway and West White Oaks Drive resulted in 27 citations. Police say they will continue to conduct those special enforcement details, focusing not just on running red lights, but also speeding and impaired and distracted driving.
