Kidzeum officials seeking emergency funding approval from Springfield City Council for roof repairs before Mayor Langfelder leaves office

Officials with the Kidzeum of Health and Science in Springfield say they’re seeking emergency approval of funding for roof repairs in hopes of avoiding a lengthy delay with the upcoming change in city administration.

Kidzeum director Leah Wilson says the leaking roof is not affecting current operations – but it is impacting the portion of the building that is undergoing a big renovation, for which grant funding was already approved.

The museum has already obtained bids for roof replacement, but those bids will soon expire – and unless aldermen approve the $88,000 grant Tuesday night, Kidzeum is concerned about starting from scratch with incoming Mayor Misty Buscher, who takes office Friday.

Wilson notes that Mayor Jim Langfelder has been a big supporter of the project, and she hopes to tie up loose ends before he leaves office.
