Illinois about to restart annual process of Medicaid eligibility verification

After being paused during the COVID pandemic, Illinois is about to resume the process of annual verification of eligibility for people on Medicaid.

Governor JB Pritzker is urging Medicaid recipients to go through that process to ensure they don’t lose coverage as the pandemic emergency comes to an end.

The initial process of verifying eligibility will happen on a rolling basis through mid-2024, starting with 113,000 people in June.

State officials say they have already used available information to determine that 51% of those June renewals are eligible to continue, and were approved.

But Medicaid recipients need to check their mail in the days ahead for notification to see if they’ve been automatically renewed or must submit paperwork to remain in the program.
