A Springfield concert promoter could be honored with a symbolic street name change, under a proposal before the Springfield City Council.

Mayor Jim Langfelder is proposing an honorary designation of 2nd Street between Monroe and Adams as “Len Trumper Way,” in honor of the longtime promoter who brought acts like Cheap Trick, Kiss, the Eagles, and Boston to Springfield, often before the bands were household names.

That stretch of 2nd Street is right in front of the Illinois State Armory, where Trumper staged many of his concerts in the 1970s.

The honorary designation would last for one year, after which time the signs would be presented to Trumper and his family.
