Illinois State Board of Education sending out HEPA machines out to schools to fight respiratory illnesses

Illinois will try another new strategy to prevent the spread of respiratory illnesses in schools.

The State Board of Education is working to distribute HEPA air purifiers to more than 3,000 schools around the state. HEPA stands for High-Efficiency Particulate Air purifiers.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is funding the $30 million program, which is intended to reduce the spread of a number of viruses, including influenza and COVID-19.
