It’s been three years since the coronavirus pandemic forced a near-total shutdown of schools, restaurants, and many other businesses across Illinois.

In that time, Illinois has seen more than four million total confirmed cases of the virus and more than 36,000 deaths.

Three years later, the spread of the virus has been slowed but not stopped. 26 Illinois counties are currently at a medium rate of community transmission.
Sangamon County remains at a low level of transmission.

Since March of 2020, there have been 76,600 COVID cases among county residents, with 445 fatalities.
