Springfield alderpeople would get some say in whether to forgive at least some outstanding debt owed to City Water Light and Power, under a proposed ordinance that goes before the City Council this week.
The issue has generated controversy in recent weeks, becoming a topic of discussion in the race for mayor after the Langfelder administration forgave around a quarter-million dollars owed to the city by the Wyndham City Centre downtown.
Under the ordinance from Aldermen Shawn Gregory and Joe McMenamin, utility debt of more than $50,000 could only be written off by a vote of the City Council.
