Conservative Lawmakers Seek To Intervene In GOP Leadership Fight

The fallout from Tuesday’s election continues for Illinois Republicans.

After a worse-than-expected showing for the GOP, Illinois House Republican leader Jim Durkin decided to step aside. Now some House Republicans are promising a fight over the leadership.

Several reports indicate state Representative Tony McCombie believes she has the votes to succeed Durkin. But conservative Representative Dan Caulkins of Decatur disputes that. He says the leadership situation is “in flux” and says the caucus needs a new direction if it ever hopes to escape its superminority status.
