A billionaire businessman who has provided financial support to Darren Bailey’s GOP campaign for governor is now also helping the effort to defeat a pro-union Illinois constitutional amendment.
Richard Uihlein is giving $1 million to a group called “Vote No On Amendment 1,” which has ties to the conservative Illinois Policy Institute. In terms of money raised, that newly-formed group is still trailing a political action committee set up to push for passage of the so-called Workers’ Rights Amendment, which would guarantee workers the right to seek collective bargaining and prohibit state or local “right-to-work” laws.
The amendment will go before Illinois voters on the November ballot.
