Health Officials Recommend Getting Latest COVID Booster Shot

State public health officials are urging eligible people to get the latest updated COVID booster shot ahead of another potential surge of the virus this fall.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has approved the new shot, which has been reformulated to provide additional protection against the omicron variants of the virus, which are now the dominant strains of COVID.

The Moderna booster is available to anyone 18 and older, while the Pfizer shot can be given to those 12 and up. It should be at least two months since your last COVID vaccination or booster. Sangamon County has ordered a supply of the new boosters, but it’s not known when they’ll be available locally
