Libertarian Jesse White Withdraws From Secretary Of State Race

It looks like Jesse White won’t be on the November ballot after all.

The longtime Democratic secretary of state was never going to be on the ballot this fall, as he is not seeking re-election after six terms in office. But the Libertarian Party had nominated someone with the same name as the party’s candidate for the open seat. However, Libertarians have now withdrawn their candidate’s nomination after a challenge to his petitions was filed. The Libertarian Party says Democrats were prepared to go to any length and cost to knock their Jesse White off the ballot, out of fear that voters would be confused and think they were voting for the popular incumbent.

The Libertarians say that any problems with the petitions are merely technical, but say they couldn’t afford the expense of a drawn-out legal fight.
