House Of Music Founder Ralph Sordyl Dies At 91

The man who started a Springfield music business that has operated for more than 60 years has died.

Ralph Sordyl opened the House of Music inside his family’s home on the city’s north end in 1960, and later moved the business to its current location on North Grand Avenue. The store has sold musical instruments, sheet music, and accessories to several generations of Springfield families. Sordyl had not been involved in day-to-day operations since developing health issues several years ago, and his family has been working in recent months to find a buyer for the business. The State Journal-Register reports Sordyl died earlier this month in Texas.

He was 91.
