Springfield’s May Jobless Rate Up Slightly From April, Down From Last Year

Unemployment is up slightly in Springfield, compared to one month earlier… but the jobless rate remains lower than it was last year at this time.

Springfield’s unemployment rate stood at 4.7 percent in May, up from 4.6 percent in April… even though there were 300 more jobs created locally during that one-month span. One year ago, unemployment locally stood at 5.1 percent.

The biggest job gains over the past year have been in education and health services, leisure and hospitality, and professional and business services.
