Two Firefighters Hurt In Blaze At Springfield Condo Complex

Two Springfield firefighters have been hurt and three townhomes may be total losses after a fire at a condominium complex on the city’s south end.

The fire affected a three-unit townhouse structure at Country Place, near Interstate 55 and Toronto Road. Firefighters Local 37 says the fire was initially reported in a garage, but the flames spread to an adjacent residence, and then to the other townhomes through a shared attic.

One firefighter was hurt when a ceiling collapsed and another was caught in a “flashover”. Both are expected to recover. There was no immediate word on the cause of the fire. No other injuries were reported, but a pet was lost in the fire.
