Wright: Policing Bill Will Mean Higher Costs For County Taxpayers

Sangamon County State’s Attorney Dan Wright says his office is going to need more attorneys and staff to implement the new state law that will end most cash bail next year.

Appearing live on WMAY, Wright says there will have to be much more work up front to ensure that his office can meet the additional steps that will be required to show that a suspect is dangerous and should remain behind bars pending trial.

Wright says the policing reform law that will end cash bail in January also imposes other new costs on local taxpayers, such as the maintenance and storage of footage from the body cameras that county deputies will soon have to wear.
