Ceremony Honors Workers Who Died On The Job, Including Murdered DCFS Employee

A ceremony in Springfield has paid tribute to workers who have lost their lives on the job… including a DCFS caseworker who was murdered while making a home visit early this year.

Thursday’s event at the Illinois AFL-CIO office in Springfield was dedicated to the memory of Deidre Silas, who was killed as she was attempting to check on the welfare of children at a home in Thayer in January.

Thursday marked Workers Memorial Day, an annual observance in honor of those who have died while carrying out their responsibilities in areas ranging from healthcare to manufacturing to highway work to law enforcement.
