Teen Indicted, Will Be Tried As Adult In Lanphier High Murder

A Springfield teen will be tried as an adult on first-degree murder and other charges in the stabbing death of another teenager outside Lanphier High School last fall.

Sangamon County State’s Attorney Dan Wright had to petition the court to allow Kamyjah Bias to be tried as an adult, since she was only 15 at the time of the November incident that claimed the life of 18-year-old Pierre Scott, Jr., and wounded another teen. Bias has since turned 16, and a judge this week granted the request to transfer the case to adult court.

A Sangamon County grand jury has indicted Bias on charges of first-degree murder, attempted murder, aggravated battery, and unlawful use of a weapon. She is being held in the juvenile detention center on $1 million bond. She could face up to 90 years in prison if convicted.
