Springfield Seeks Grant Funds To Develop North Mansion Y Block

The City of Springfield is seeking a $3 million grant in its latest push to convert the vacant North Mansion Y Block into a public gathering space… with an amphitheater, a market pavilion, splash pad, and more.

The money would come from the state of Illinois Main Street program. The plans call for an upper terrace, sloping down to a lower level where the stage would be located. It would also include statues of two Presidents with Springfield connections… Abraham Lincoln and Barack Obama. The city says the plaza would enhance development on the 4thStreet corridor, which would be converted to two-way traffic.

Details and artist sketches of the plan are available on the city’s website.
