Two versions of a proposed new subdistrict map for Springfield school board races are now posted online for review.
The Springfield/Sangamon County Regional Planning Commission drew up the options for the new maps, which will be used to determine school board representation starting in 2023. The two versions are similar. In each, one of the seven subdistricts has a majority-Black population, while two others have Black populations of more than 20-percent. The commission will make a full presentation to the school board at the March 21st meeting.
Meanwhile, Springfield aldermen will vote next week on a $195,000 contract to have the planning commission devise new ward maps for next year’s city elections.
