A Republican candidate for governor is getting an endorsement that could boost his standing with conservative GOP voters.
Former Illinois lawmaker and one-time candidate for governor Jeanne Ives is throwing her support behind state Senator Darren Bailey in the crowded Republican primary. Ives narrowly lost to then-Governor Bruce Rauner in the 2018 GOP gubernatorial primary, and continues to have a strong following among conservative voters around the state.
Bailey is one of at least five Republicans seeking the nomination for the chance to challenge Democratic incumbent JB Pritzker this fall.
