State Police Handled Thousands Of Service Calls During Snowstorm

This week’s snowstorm across Central Illinois left literally thousands of Illinois drivers seeking help.
Illinois State Police say they responded to more than 2,000 calls for service starting Thursday, when the storm dumped five inches of snow on Springfield… with higher totals to the north. Statewide, state police handled 303 crashes and 827 motorist assists in addition to the other calls for service.
One of the biggest trouble spots was on Interstate 39 north of Bloomington-Normal, as nearly 30 vehicles collided and dozens of others slid off the road in icy conditions. The interstate finally reopened in both directions Friday afternoon, nearly 24 hours after the chain reaction crash began.
