Springfield Seeks Meeting With Airport Authority Over Tax Dispute

The City of Springfield is requesting a meeting with the Springfield Airport Authority over the legal dispute over aviation fuel tax revenues.
The airport has hired a lawyer to pursue litigation over the matter, saying the city improperly collected and held onto those tax dollars for years. The city says it was not required to reimburse the airport for those dollars until federal and state law changes took effect in 2017 and 2019, and contends that, at most, it owes the airport $48,000… which Mayor Jim Langfelder wants to use to hire a consultant to study air service in Springfield. But the airport authority says the dispute dates back much farther, and the amount in question could be hundreds of thousands of dollars.
An attorney for the airport authority says it will meet with the city, but no date has been set for that discussion.
