Expect to see a lot of Amelias and Noahs around town in the years to come.
Those are the most popular baby names of 2021, based upon birth records from HSHS St. John’s Hospital and Springfield Memorial Hospital. 21 babies born at the hospitals last year were named Amelia, just edging out Sophia, which came in second place among girls’ names with 19. It was the third year in a row for Amelia at the top of the girls’ list.
For boys, Noah was the name given to 22 babies, ahead of Jackson and Owen, tied for second with 16 each. 2020’s most popular boys’ name, Oliver, slid to seventh place in 2021.
