The COVID-related cancellation of First Night Springfield could have a ripple impact on many local arts initiatives in 2022.
Newschannel 20 reports the annual New Year’s Eve celebration has been the biggest yearly fundraiser for the Springfield Area Arts Council. The arts council says local fundraising was down 80-percent last year, impacting its ability to support other local arts programs.
The Arts Council oversees the Artists on the Plaza concert series, helps coordinate the Levitt AMP downtown concerts, and provides grants to bring performers into local schools.
