NWS: Four Tornadoes Hit Central Illinois Friday

The National Weather Service now confirms that four tornadoes hit portions of Central Illinois during Friday night’s severe storm outbreak.

While the Menard County sheriff’s office reported a tornado on the ground Friday night, the weather service did not confirm it until completing a damage assessment Sunday. Tornadoes were also confirmed near Virginia in Cass County, as well as one in Shelby County and another that hit Shelby, Moultrie, and Coles Counties.

All four twisters are categorized as EF-2 storms, with maximum winds of 120 to 125 miles per hour.
