More media reports indicate Republican Congressman Rodney Davis will seek a new term in Congress from the newly-redrawn 15th District, rather than staging a statewide challenge against Democratic Governor JB Pritzker.
The report from WCIA-TV’s Mark Maxwell echoes reporting earlier this month from the Illinoize online newsletter, citing sources close to the campaign. There was no immediate word on when a formal announcement would take place.
Davis has said for months that his preference would be to run for re-election to the House, but that the decision would depend on the congressional district map drawn by Democrats. The map signed last week by Pritzker puts Davis in a new, heavily-Republican 15th District that includes his hometown of Taylorville, but does not include any part of Springfield.
Breaking: U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis will NOT run for Governor. His campaign plans to announce plans to run in the new Illinois 15th Congressional District, which Democrats drew to include his hometown of Taylorville.
