At least two floors of the Illinois Capitol were evacuated Wednesday afternoon on the second day of the fall veto session after an apparent bomb threat.
The third and fourth floors of the building were evacuated. The House was called to evacuate at 2:07 p.m. The Senate was in recess.
State Rep. Art Turner cut off debate on a bill in the House.
"Members, we’re going to stand at recess to the call of the chair and all members are asked to evacuate the third and fourth floor of the building immediately," Turner said after interrupting the discussion and asking the clerk to remove the bill from consideration.
The evacuation came after a reported bomb threat.
Less than an hour after members left the House floor, they were cleared to resume the session.
