Believe it or not, Illinois is one list away from its final Top 200 list.
The voting at IllinoisTop200.com is almost complete.
Bicentennial best-of voters last week picked Abraham Lincoln as the state’s best leader. That was the second-to-last list.
Chris Wills with the Lincoln Presidential Library said voters will pick the state’s top moments over the next two weeks. Then the list will be complete.
"The results will be available on the Lincoln Presidential Library’s website," Wills said. "And I hope it becomes a resource for anybody who is interested in exploring the state’s history."
Wills said he doesn’t want the list to just sit on the shelf.
"Maybe a teacher is looking for some fresh ideas on how to discuss history with their students," Wills said. "Maybe the students want to come up with somebody to do a report about, who isn’t an obvious candidate. So they go to our list."
The full Top 200 list will be ready in time to be part of the celebration of Illinois’ 200th anniversary on Dec. 3.
