Appointments for free mammograms available for patients age 40 and older
Memorial Health has announced that during the month of October, free breast cancer screenings will be made available at all five Memorial Health hospitals for women age 40 and older who are uninsured or underinsured.
The free screenings are part of Memorial’s annual Mammogram Mondays program held during October, which marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women in the United States. Experts agree that early detection is key: the American College of Radiology and Society of Breast Imaging recommend all women 40 years of age and older have annual screening mammograms.
To participate in Memorial’s Mammogram Mondays program, patients must schedule an appointment; no walk-ins are available. Educational materials will be made available, including information on general breast health and how to perform breast self-exams.
