IDOT opens closed lanes for Labor Day travelers

Summary

Some traffic closures to remain in effect

Until 11:59 PM on Monday September 2, closed traffic lanes on roads across Illinois will be opened to travelers.

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that most non-emergency traffic closures would be temporarily suspended in recognition of the Labor Day weekend, allowing motorists to utilize as much of the road as possible for their holiday travels.

However, some traffic will not be opened through the holiday: for example, in Sangamon County, southbound lanes along I-55  at the Sangamon River crossing shall remain restricted.

A full list of construction lanes which will remain closed can be found on a webpage organized by IDOT for the holiday. The Department urges drivers to remain alert for any changes in road conditions, pay careful attention to work zone posting, and especially to buckle their seatbelts and drive sober.
