Illinois political figures react to newest DOJ-Trump indictments

A number of Illinois political figures are reacting to the latest indictment of former President Donald Trump – the first time a former President has faced federal criminal charges.

Republican Congresswoman Mary Miller, a longtime Trump supporter who was endorsed by him in her GOP primary fight last year, calls the charges against Trump “bogus” and accuses President Biden and his Department of Justice of interfering in the 2024 election.

Former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich – whose prison sentence on corruption charges was commuted by Trump – says a “weaponized” DOJ is indicting Trump for “non-crimes.”

Meanwhile, Democratic U.S. Senator Dick Durbin says the investigation into Trump must be allowed to proceed without interference. He also says Trump is entitled to due process and his day in court.
