Former candidate for Sangamon County Board Donald Anderson now facing charges of perjury and forgery over his nominating petitions

A former candidate for the Sangamon County Board is now facing charges of perjury and forgery over his nominating petitions for that seat.

The Illinois Attorney General’s Office accuses 44-year-old Donald Anderson of submitting forged signatures on his petitions and falsely certifying that the signatures were genuine.

Anderson had filed to run as a Republican last year to challenge Democratic candidate Sam Cahnman. He needed only nine valid signatures from that county board district to qualify for the ballot, but withdrew from the race after his petitions were challenged.

Anderson was indicted in May by a Sangamon County grand jury on eight felony counts.

He has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is due back in court in July.
