Newly approved legislation creates Illinois-based health insurance marketplace to safeguard Illinoisans and their health going forward

Among the bills approved by Illinois lawmakers before the spring session adjourned were measures that could mean major changes in access to and affordability of health insurance.

One bill creates a state-based health insurance marketplace, which Governor JB Pritzker says will protect Illinoisans if future federal administrations disrupt healthcare enrollment.

Another bill puts new restrictions on how insurance companies set rates for health plans, and gives state regulators the power to modify or reject rate hikes that they find unreasonable.
