Chicago Cardinal Blase Cupich issues statement in response to Illinois AG office’s report – AG Raoul responds

The back-and-forth continues over this week’s report by the Illinois Attorney General’s Office outlining previously unreported cases of sexual abuse by Roman Catholic clergy in Illinois, dating back to 1950.

Chicago Cardinal Blase Cupich issued a statement saying he hadn’t heard of some of the names on the list and questioned why the Attorney General hadn’t given the info to the archdiocese before issuing the report.

Attorney General Kwame Raoul swiftly responded. He noted that many of the names came from the archdiocese itself, and, furthermore, said that the cardinal’s statement is, at best misleading and, at worst, part of an ongoing pattern of sweeping severe allegations under the rug.
